Abu Omar Elmasry tells the story of a man crushed by overwhelming injustice. It takes us to the underworld of Cairo where frustrated youth find no outlet for their anger, the slums of Paris where exclusion is the rule, the deceivingly calm streets of Khartoum, and finally to the killing fields in Afghanistan. Its stories combine love and stoicism; the brutal repression of states and the grim reality of violent Jihad; altruism and the banalization of murder.

This is a novel about ephemeral quests; the realization of the hollowness of the quest for justice or for revenge, just as the ultimate goal seems within reach. When purpose has dissipated through the many loopholes on the way, the ultimate victory becomes equal to defeat … until an unexpected ray of light shines through those same loopholes, a light that Abu Omar was not prepared for.

Abu Omar Elmasry is a novel about the things that really matter in life.
